The Palm House that resides within the comfort of Sefton Park provided the perfect setting for John O’ Connell, Liverpool’s own urban troubadour, to perform to an audience that simply was blown away by him and his excellent set of musicians.

There really is one problem when it comes to a Megadeth performance at an outdoor festival and that for the most part; their set is takes place during the day. For Megadeth, for Dave Mustaine, there is no chance, by design or by choice for the band to be one of the most electric, most atmospheric thrash metal bands of all time.

The very name opens doors, it struck horror into a generation still coping with the horrors of World War Two and the four men behind the band have been lauded ever since for bringing heavy metal to the world.

There was a general air of expectancy about the reformation of Soundgarden that buzzed around Donington and the overall weekend of Download. Plenty of T-Shirts were spotted being worn with semblance of pride; many conversations were overheard on how people were perhaps looking forward to this slot more than many others. It was therefore a shame that the hype really didn’t lend itself to time that the band were on stage.

For some within the crowd at Download, it was plain to see on their faces that their thoughts were focused on Lamb of God on the Sunday as the band of weekend. Up against some incredible and pretty stiff opposition that’s a hell of a statement on their part, however they were excellent and worthy title fighters for the accolade.

There is nothing quite like nostalgia; especially when it’s done to with an inch of perfection, a decent sized crowd have enjoyed it immensely and the songs have been as near perfect as you can imagine.
Brit Floyd arrived in Salisbury for their debut show in the city full of hope and aspirations to make some of the small Wiltshire city relive some of the best music to have come out of these islands by one of the most popular bands to ever grace a stage. It is more than fair to say that they easily beat those aims.

There is something to be said for the moment where you realise that a performer of glorious musical intelligence is playing his heart out in front of you. That moment is magnified when as a music lover, no matter the genre, you are sure that what you are seeing before you is one of the most unlikely best support acts you are likely to hear in any year.

Mike Rutherford really needs no introduction, certainly not to the extremely fascinated and focused crowd at the o2 Academy in Birmingham who roared in vocal appreciation at the man responsible for many of Genesis’s hits over the years, and who managed to juggle his side project Mike and the Mechanics with such musical aplomb.

Wirral band Route 22 have all the right attributes and dedication to succeed, what is more impressive is the way, that on a night of supporting the supports at the o2 Academy, Liverpool, the four members of the band did it in front of an audience that had already spent their energy watching the previous group on offer and were now resting away from the stage.

Like Mercury Midnight and The Guardians before them, The Sub Zeros are a band that has something more to them than first meets the eye.
Fronted by the very fabulous Katie Lochhead on bass and vocals, The Sub Zeros took the o2 Academy, Liverpool by storm and left at the end of their set with heads held high and with the knowledge that there were a lot of converts to their incredible sound.
