Chasing Infinity, Gig Review. The Lomax, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * *

It doesn’t seem like five minutes ago that the members of the fledgling group, Chasing Infinity, were making their way through the University of Liverpool Band Society. The chance to get together with like minded people through music at University may have had its detractors but as Adele Halsall, Rob Saunders, Paul McCormick and Megan Eldred have more than ably proved over the last couple of years, it is just the beginning.

After refining their sound for a couple of years and the invariable line up change along the way, the group have started to make a name for themselves and with good cause. To headline The Cavern for one of their nights takes some doing and yet in the surroundings of The Lomax the two women and two men operated and glided through their set with ease that suggests given a bit more time and the right advice they will go a very long way.

What makes them just that little bit special is that like the Bangles, The Go Go’s and Kate Schellenbach from the early days of The Beastie Boys, the drummer, the main heart of the band in some respects, is female. It is still woefully shocking that women aren’t overly represented within this position of the band and habitually it warrants discussion among the crowd. In the case Megan Eldred she is nothing but superb at what she does as she brings the two men Rob and Paul into play.

This wonderful balance between the band members is maintained by the vocalist Adele Halsall, who has the sheer confidence to also do what men do at the front of the stage and become a show person. Not for Adele as she sang tracks such as Hell Wouldn’t Have You, I Don’t Mind, Crime of the Scene and I Want Doesn’t Get to stand cowering under the lights as some frontmen do, this is a confident women enjoying every minute of Chasing Infinity’s infant career.

A very enjoyable set by a group that has so much going for it and with talent that is bursting to be recognised further.
