Like films about sporting events, it can be hard to catch a piece of art when confining it to the kitchen, when allowing the furnace like quality, the cauldron of temper to infiltrate celluloid, for like an orchestra, every interpretation of the moves and subtle dance within a restaurant kitchen is open up for debate and explanation.

Humanity never learns, it assumes control and mastery over all and in the end it seems both nature and the beast will always win through. It’s a good job really, for if humanity ever truly learned from its mistakes, films like Jurassic World would never get made and cinema would be poorer for it.

Only somebody perhaps as good as Michael Gondry could produce a film so tender, so utterly charming, so clever and ever so slightly and brilliantly bizarre and pretentious as Mood Indigo and get away with it. A film that is so charming and clever and yet at its very heart is a piece of cinema that deals with death and the loss of idealism, nobody else surely would have the cinematic balls to do it without being locked away first.
