Kacey Musgraves, Star-Crossed. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 7/10

To expect an artist to produce the same material time and again shows that find the process of individual evolution is beyond you, for whilst art has been reduced to an entertainment rather than attainment, we must remember that in the end the art has been only loaned to us, we are the ones who benefit from the process, but the overall canon of work belongs solely to the artist; it is their generosity and need that sees it come to life in the minds of those seeking illumination.

People make much of debut performances, the rite of passage which is seen as historic, the wish to not only enjoy at first-hand what the future may bring, but perhaps to deliver the knowing smile in homely company or at the places of work the thought that you were there to witness it.

The trailer always moves on, by an artist’s own definition it cannot remain in the same place forever, how else would the same scenery inspire the muse or its creator to keep on producing new and exciting material if that were the case.

The trailer may still be in the same spot where she parked up for her previous album in 2013 but the sense of maturity as a musician even in those couple of years and the light years since she first played around with her own independent recordings is something that comes across with much depth in Kacey Musgraves latest release, Pageant Material and which has seen the trailer become an impregnable fortress.

The jovial attitude that springs from the voice of Kacey Musgraves as her new album, Same Trailer Different Park, plays hides an acerbic wit and cutting disdainful melancholy which makes her a refreshing change in the world of American country music. There have been others who have this same outlook but they usually have been tarnished and jaded by a life time of regret and disappointment of the world they live in.
