Feeder, Torpedo. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 8.5/10

The explosion may be expected, you may feel the initial hum, the air around you may fill with the clamour of noise and warning sounds, and the sea of troubles outside the chamber in which you have immersed yourself in may echo and reverberate, and as each Torpedo hits its intended target, so the song begins in earnest, the metal of indifference buckles, the shell of disinterest collapses, and the captain and the crew, the heart, the soul, the feelings who muster the mind and sail the body of the listener all find that the weapon they thought had destroyed the vessel, in actual fact brought them together.

Welsh rock music is very much on a high right now, what with the Stereophonics having released their best album in years, The Manic Street Preachers on the verge of yet another sell out tour and even older stalwarts like The Alarm enjoying a huge renaissance with new audiences, add to this the rollercoaster band that is Feeder and you have got the making of one hell of a line up at Millennium Stadium.

Feeder themselves have released their seventh studio album and it is bar far the best album that the band have released since the untimely death of drummer Jon Lee in 2002.

Feeder have gone from Indie Rock heroes and not getting the credit they deserve to one of the best live acts that currently ply their trade in front of fans, new and old. With their style of whimsical musings disguised in heavy, brutal, pounding riffs, it is no wonder they have become household favourites.

L.S. Media Rating *****

The lyrics to the title track of the album Generation Freakshow sums up the new release by Feeder perfectly. Listen very carefully and it becomes more than a chant of denial from a lost generation and those that have led the way like a pied piper playing tunes that betray them and will lead them not to a salvation but to a despondency that is palpable throughout this incredible album.

L.S. Media Rating ****

Feeder had only released their new album, Generation Freakshow, the day before but looking around the extremely packed out Parr Hall in Warrington, it was impossible to see any fan that hadn’t already learned the vast majority of the words to the new songs in time for the band’s appearance on stage.
