A year has barely passed by since Erica Nockalls and Miles Hunt were in Liverpool’s Rodewald Suite and giving a top class evening out to an abundance of fans. Then as now, both artists came prepared to give the audience a night out to remember but also to have a lot of fun, once more all the criteria was met as far as the excited crowd were concerned and the smile on the musicians’ faces more than told its own story.

Although not the headline act, it was to be Miles Kane who really stole the show at the Liverpool leg of the N.M.E. Awards Tour.
Playing to a hometown audience, the Merseyside Mod came out with all the swagger and determination expected. Opener Give Up packs the punch of crowd favourite Inhaler and with Kingcrawler and First of my Kind following, Kane had set his stall out early.
Much of the set comprised of newer material, however the infectious Rearrange and Counting Down the Days, both from Colour of The Trap, still draw mass sing-alongs.

They don’t come much more rich and musically exotic as Tommy Emmanuel and Martin Taylor, two men whose work ethic and contribution to music is outstanding and what better way to enhance their reputation to in effect stratospheric proportions than by working together on the outstanding album The Colonel and The Governor.

The steel cities that are divided by an ocean both have seen rough times and an industry that was decimated beyond recognition. Whereas Sheffield found solace in in burgeoning pop scene of the 1980s with the likes of The Human League, A.B.C. and Heaven 17, Pittsburgh, once rightly called the power house of America and the home of the great Pittsburgh Penguins now has a band to look up to and salute in the same way as the great Anti Flag.

The faint sounds of New York Jazz filter through the Unity Theatre and from there the audience is taken on a rollercoaster of emotions in which the modern day musical, I Love You Because, is the perfect way to spend time with those you love, even if they don’t know it’s you they are looking for.

When a person dies, it is understandable for those left behind to feel so much grief that the desire to hang on any part of them at all is so overwhelming. Their clothes, their favourite mug, a much loved picture of a wedding day are all there to cherish and hold onto for as long as it takes, but could you restore their voice, their physical mental being and download it into a synthetic machine that knows everything about the person they have supplanted but not how to act with instinctive. Such is the haunting premise of Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror series and its opening episode of the new series Be Right Back.

For 40 years Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show has thrilled audiences all over the globe. It’s songs of debauchery, sensational and brilliant depravity such Timewarp, Sweet Transvestite, I Can Make You a Man and The Sword of Damocles get audiences laughing, dancing and enjoying every time they get performed, for all that it is no wonder that crowds flock to watch it in their abundance.

There can be no doubting the staying power of Richard Thompson, if anything the man who cut his musical teeth with the likes of Fairport Convention has become more prolific as the years have gone by and compared to those that that once stood alongside him, Richard Thompson remains as likeable and musically pleasing as he ever did, something he has proved once more in his latest release Electric.
