A Beautiful Morning.

There is no such thing as a beautiful morning,

the hours, the minutes just click by

between light and dark,

both coloured a charcoal grey,

and I grow tired of them both

being the same, even

when there is a handsome sun

riding the clouds like a lover gasping for air

or the moon desperately seeking solace,

away from prying eyes, shrinking

in its magnificence;

I find them both worthy of the same attention

and that is why

my blue eyes are closed.

Your Precious Time.

Thank you for your Time,

it was precious to you and for a while

it consumed me, it overwhelmed

me that you should choose

to place each minute in my company;

thank you

for not allowing me to waste it,

as much as I could have done.

White Liars, Theatre Review. The Gregson Memorial Institute, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

Cast: Adam Stubbs, Isham R. Redford, Eve Smith.

There are so many classes of lies, the half truths, the simply tarnished and embellished, whether to get us out of trouble or to enhance our reputation within a certain social circle of friends, the lie can always be seen as the spectre in the crowd but also the warm and comfortable friend who covers us in her shroud as the day wears on. The statements of I am fine, I can cope, all is well, these are the white lies that are acceptable to others and in so making us the accomplice to the well meaning deceit, that we are White Liars who spread the white lie.

The Lego Batman Movie, Film Review. Picturehouse@F.A.C.T., Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

Cast: Will Arnett, Ralph Fiennes, Zach Galifianakis, Rosario Dawson, Michael Cera, Jenny Slate, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Jermaine Clement, Ellie Kemper, Adam Devine, Kate Micucci, Seth Green, Jason Mantzoukas, Mariah Carey, Billy Dee Williams, Riki Lindhome, Eddie Izzard, Conan O’Brien, Doug Benson.

There is nothing like a good Batman film in which to soak up a few hours, Bob Kane’s gift to comic book fandom has had its ups and down, whilst enjoyable in a kitsch, clique ridden way, the 60s television and subsequent film didn’t add much to the mystique of the Dark Knight, whereas Michael Keaton’s and Christian Bale’s interpretation of the man and the myth was completely and beautifully captured by their respective directors.

Dare I Never Kiss The French Woman Again.

It would never be just one last trip.

I would promise myself

that once I uttered, with tears in my throat

catching my breath and stalling the moment

in my final

goodbyes to the stone faced French lady

on the waters, no sword in hand, a now skewed vision

of what it was to be part of a less free world

in her dead expressionless eyes,

a monkey on her back, damned dirty

politics playing games with a woman I love,

it still would never be goodbye.

Passion is playful monster that at times never knows the boundaries in which has been set down by tradition; passion finds a way to break past the limitations imposed on the soul and charges without a care into the dark cold world and illuminates it far beyond anyone’s expectations.

Cut, Second Skin. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

The deepest cut to the psyche is not always done by others, although their actions on occasions define us and how devastating a blow it becomes to us; the longest cut, the simplest straight forward incision into our skin is because we want to know how the pain feels when inflicted by ourselves. The cut is enough to make us grow our Second Skin, the face we wear when the world is against us, that face that can be marked and bruised but never one to bow under the pressure of capitulation, this is reality of putting two fingers up to the detractors and kicking on in style.

Principal Boy.

I am acting as if there is no hurricane

enveloping me,

sweeping skywards,

battering me with all the forces of nature

that life can control.

I am a bystander

in my own self written pantomime,

the star of the show somebody

once uncast and negligent

in their approach to physical theatre

and they dodge the cream puff pie

with ease; that

is not how it was ever supposed to be.

The hurricane, the wind inside ferocious

and tedious lands on the stage, the principal boy

Sages, Sleepwalker. Album Review.

It is our own perceptions that shape the world as we see it, not the start to some far flung science fiction novel in which reality is a fluid state and one controlled by dark forces, but the everyday in which one person’s view of a situation can be drastically or even subtly different to another’s; in that moment perception can be altered and it is a state of emotional attachment that can shape adoration or fear of the unknown.

Paul Dunbar, Gig Review. 02 Acadamy, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

The orange and bright white lights of the Academy Two capture the essence of many musicians who pass underneath the black curtain and stand in front of what can be a tightly packed crowd, the thin veil of sweat mixing heavily with the heady perfume and the rippling veins of muscles working a guitar or taking the drums on at full speed adding to the drama of the night; Academy Two offers much in the way of music fulfilment.
