There is no dispute to what the New 52 series has done for D.C. Comics. It has made even the most dedicated fan of Marvel and the independent Graphic Novel publishers fall in love for the re-branding of one of the comic industries’ big two. Where at one time, with the absolute exception of Batman, the very possible concession to Wonder Woman and certainly in America, the absolute mainstay of the franchise Superman, there was never really anything for a lover of the comic book to latch on to and take to their heart.

There are times in life when you really feel honoured…beyond that, grateful, to have heard a set of songs by a band or an artist in which the long nights caress the furrowed brow and handles the inner music beast with the soft click of the finger. That ambient caress is never far away when it comes to ME and Deboe, yet they also manage to tune you into a different direction in life, the mere taste of a song can cause the heart to gain momentum, give it the energy to face a new dawn and ultimately make you relieved that music chose to infiltrate your soul.

Some teams are born great, others achieve greatness and some actually grind out a result which wasn’t befitting of their glorious past but managed to do the job anyway.

Brazil, with the odd moment of joy in five games of football at this particular World Cup, have flattered themselves and have arguably been fortunate not to lose against Mexico, Chile and now by far the most attractive team to watch from both American continents, the auspicious and skilful Columbians. For many fans of the Brazilian game and there are millions upon millions outside the South Americas, the name of the past are what they have thrived upon.

There is always something that keeps even the sturdiest and happy go lucky minds awake during the hours of darkness, whether it the constant thought of repression, misplaced anger, guilt or unremitting sorrow, nightmares find a way into the deepest recesses and have an annoying habit of making you pay whilst you sleep as you do when you are awake.

What keeps them at bay can be just the knowledge that somewhere somebody truly loves you for whatever you and whatever you have done, tenderness and darkness so compatible, so alluring and cautious that it can only be described as Love Songs and Other Nightmares.

If only the so called Brit Pop phenomenon of the 1990s had been founded in the heartland of pop, the public houses, the bars and clubs that cosy alongside the River Mersey it would have arguably been as colourful as the Mersey Beat era of the 1960s. It would have also arguably been more substantial and lasted with more ferocity than what eventually fizzled out between a few bands, sometimes with the British press over egging it to the point where there was a farm somewhere in Lancashire on 24 hour production schedule to meet the near selfish demand.

The Zanzibar Club has had so many bands and musicians pass through its large metallic doors that if there was to be a roll of honour made up, carved out of the same wood that adorns the walls at Lords Cricket ground when a player takes five or ten wickets in an innings then amongst the names of Alan O’ Hare, the legendary Pete Wylie and the sensational Mersey Wylie and a thousand fold others, the one that might catch the eye is the exciting The Akalites.

Richard Durrant, Cycling Music. Album Review.

Imagine the days when a bike ride meant disappearing into the country for a while, round to nearest largest natural expanse of nature you could find or even when you could ride on the road unhindered by the feel of ever increasing technology dogging every turn of the wheel. Many have tried, and in some cases notably succeeded, to recapture what that feeling is like, to have the click of the milometer go up in stages before your eyes whilst taking in the surroundings without an engine interfering with the natural order of the world. Many have tried but Richard Durrant goes one stage further with his album Cycling Music, he captures the peace of the journey rather than the frenetic discombobulated three minute rage, the sunny day through winding roads and the taste of local food tempting the palate rather than the steam inducing affair of the Tour de France or of thousands of fans lining a route just to see a flash of sweat pass them by.

Titans will always have time allotted to them in the end; some are so blessed that a film about them or a biopic will come out not long after they have passed on, lest the public mind every have the misfortune to forget about them. In the case of legendary Spanish golfer Severiano Ballesteros, it is highly unlikely that the world will ever forget this genuine talent, the matador of the fairway. However, it does no harm to take a stroll down memory lane and shake hands once more with arguably the most charismatic golfer of all time in the film Seve.
