The Unity Theatre’s 2018 Summer Programme To See Bold New Work Reign Supreme.

The Unity’s programme of bold, exhilarating work continues on 17th May with Tooth+Nail’s dementia-themed Thread (working title). This emerging company brings their contemporary blend of rich storytelling and eye-popping bodily feats. On 18th May they form part of Liverpool’s much-loved festival of culture, LightNight, and on 25th May, Unity Associate Company Tmesis Theatre present Physical Fest Scratch Night, your physical theatre fest for 2018.

The Damned United – the story of Brian Clough and Leeds United – returns following its successful 2016 run on 22nd-23rd May. In light of the success of Nina: A Story About Me and Nina Simone, a jazz icon is back in the spotlight on 24th May with Who Wants to Live Forever?. This charming musing on love, loss and hope is soaked with the intoxicating songs of Billie Holiday written and performed by Slate Enabler Cheryl Martin.

Unity first-timers Cusan Theatre, created by South American practitioner Tanya Cusan-Espinosa, appear on 30th-31st May with The Princess of the Rainforest. Their beautiful puppet work and rustic storytelling will warm your heart and delight your little ones.

On 13th June, Your Best Guess unites theatre-maker Chris Thorpe and Portuguese company mala voadora, looking at the unpredictability of the future.

Dance is back on the menu on 12th June with Growing Older (Dis)gracefully celebrating 21 years of dancing in Coming of Age.

On 27th June the delightfully raucous Naughty Corner return to Unity, bringing tongue-in-cheek two-hander The Muckers. The team are back 28th-30th June with football themed material, this time with comedy caper Bob the Russian.

On 11th-13 July, 20 Stories High bring Indebted: The Mix Tape, an evening of exhilarating new work from young people on Merseyside. On 19th-21st July we have The Silence Between Us, a touching new musical set against the backdrop of World War 2. Finally, on 27th-28th July, Unity Youth Theatre bring The Uncomfortability of a Made Up Wor(l)d – a highly relevant look at the transience and difficulties of social media and the versions of ourselves we present online.

On May 5th & 19th, the theatre hosts their Saturday morning creative and performing arts clubs, Splatterdays, designed for a range of ages.
