Ken Alexander Announces His Departure From The Royal Court Theatre After 18 Glorious Months.

Ken Alexander, Artistic Director of Royal Court Liverpool has announced that he is to move on from the theatre after the current production of Sex And The Suburbs.

That show will mark 18 months since his appointment and, with the theatre about to enter the second phase of its renovation work, he feels that it is time to pursue other projects with other theatres.

During his time as Artistic Director, Ken has helped to develop the Artistic Policy of the Royal Court and broadened the programme of work. He also directed a number of very popular shows including Ladies Day, Laurel and Hardy’s Sons Of The Desert, The Hitchhiker’s Guide To Fazakerley and Special Measures.

The artistic direction of the Royal Court will return to Chief Executive Kevin Fearon, alongside Associate Artistic Director Bob Eaton and Associate Musical Director Howard Gray. They will also have input from playwright, director and Royal Court Liverpool Trust Board Member John Godber.

Speaking today, Ken said: “It’s been great to have the opportunity to work with the Royal Court Theatre’s team on the development of the programme of productions in this wonderful theatre. It’s a tremendous city and I have been made to feel very welcome by the terrifically talented people working on stage and behind the scenes over the last eighteen months. I wish the Royal Court all the very best for the next stage of building development.”

Kevin Fearon is confident about the future: “Ken has been brilliant in his time here as Artistic Director. We are looking forward to continuing to produce great work here for our audience for years to come. Ken is always welcome back here and I am sure that he will be directing shows here in the future.”

Ken Alexander’s final show as Artistic Director, Sex And The Suburbs, runs from until 7th June.
