In the year that marks the centenary of Dylan Thomas’ birth and the 60th anniversary of the play’s British première, Clwyd Theatre Cymru’s acclaimed production of Under Milk Wood comes to the Liverpool Playhouse from Monday 19th to Saturday 24th May.

Directed by Liverpool Everyman founder Terry Hands and featuring Owen Teale, Dylan Thomas’ rapturous Under Milk Wood is a work of genius; ripe with vitality, rich in humour and populated by sublime, eccentric, enchanting characters. Both a play and a poem, written from the heart, it offers an unforgettable journey into the roots of language and the soul of Wales.

Come to Llareggub, a small Welsh town by the sea. Meet blind Captain Cat, Mog Edwards and his sweetheart Miss Price, Sinbad Sailor, Dai Bread, Polly Garter, Nogood Boyo and Lord Cut Glass. Walk along Coronation Street, Cockle Row and Donkey Street, down to the little fishing harbour and back to Milk Wood. Dylan Thomas explores their lives, hopes and thoughts in the dreams of a night and the rhythm of a day.

Owen Teale won Best Actor Tony Award for his performance in A Doll’s House on Broadway and recently starred alongside Zoë Wanamaker in the West End production of Passion Play by Peter Nichols. On television he is famed for his role as Ser Alliser in the HBO adaptation of Game of Thrones.

This new production of Under Milk Wood is directed by Terry Hands, one of the founders of the Liverpool Everyman Theatre in 1964 and former Artistic Director of the R.S.C. who has been Artistic Director of Clwyd Theatr Cymru and since 1997.

The cast also features Torchwood’s Kai Owen and Steven Meo from Gavin & Stacey as well as Brendan Charles, Ifan Huw-Dafydd, Richard Elin-Salt, Charlotte Gray, Sara Harris–Davis, Sophie Melville, Caryl Morgan, Simon Nehan, and Christian Patterson.
