On Monday 22nd April, one of Liverpool’s favourite sons, Alexei Sayle will be returning to the city as the next guest of the long established series Clapperboard Presents…his varied career spans across many genres working as a comic, novelist, actor and columnist. His 2008 series about his hometown, Alexei Sayle’s Liverpool, was one of the B.B.C.’s flagship events to mark Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture.
His television comedy career includes six series of Alexei Sayle’s Stuff for the B.B.C., playing the whole Balowski family in The Young Ones and several films in The Comic Strip Presents series. Other television includes Miss Marple for I.T.V. to be shown later this year.
Alexei’s films include The Thief Lord, Gorky Park and Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.
Alexei has established himself as a successful and critically acclaimed novelist. In recent years has published three novels, Overtaken, The Weeping Women Hotel and Mister Robert, and two collections of short stories, Barcelona Chairs and The Dog Catcher. He has the distinction of being the U.K.’s best-selling author of short stories.
Alexei has recently made his highly successful return to stand-up comedy after an absence of 17 years. He will be joined at picturehouse@fact, by Roger Shannon, Professor of Film in the Department of Media at Edge Hill University, who will Chair the Q and A session with the audience.
Alexei Sayle said, “I’m looking forward to coming to Liverpool to show excerpts from and talk about some of the fantastic, and some of the terrible films that I’ve appeared in over the years. A big thank you to Clapperboard for giving me this opportunity”.
