Jimmy Rae, Deliverance. Album Review.

After an absence of more than two decades away from the music scene, Jimmy Rae has returned with a debut solo album and has hit gold. Wonderfully titled Deliverance, Jimmy seems to play on his time away and has recorded an album that is strong, sincere and a joy to listen to.

For those who have not heard of Jimmy Rae, the last time he graced our ears was when he was part of the Reverb Brothers, a band who were highly rated by radio’s Janice Long at the time.

The album opens with the song Ain’t So Sorry which has a delightful classic country/folk/rock feel to it which fits Jimmy’s voice perfectly. It is certainly in keeping with the rest of the album which has the tone of some of Don Henley and the Eagles within it.

Jimmy has surrounded himself with some superb talent on the album including Adrian Hall on keyboards, Iain Morton on drums and the talented Jo Pue on the violin on the track I wish you Everything. In their own way these musicians add to the overall feel of the tracks and in the case of Adrian, provides a strong musical backbone to Jimmy’s lyrics.

Certainly an album for lovers of country rock to add to their collection but also one for the uninitiated to have a delve through. Interesting and subtle on the ears, a very good album that should kick start Jimmy’s career again.
