Not Advised, Gig Review. o2 Academy, Liverpool.

Not Advised may come from an unfashionable setting when it comes to music but there is sense of youthful expertise that will surely see them become one of the best musical talents to come out of the Southampton/New Forest area.

The lads opened up the set with the electrifying Right Now and A Red Light Situation, both of which did enough to dispel any lingering doubts that the young Southampton band’s own taste in music would not cross the North- South rock divide.

The band seemed slightly nervous to start as lead vocalist James Thomas had reluctantly pulled out of the tour due to illness but rather than let down their steady growing fan base by cancelling the gigs, the guys carried on in the most professional manner with Ash Oliver making a good replacement. Certainly the young lad did brilliantly combining his own job within the band as guitarist and the extra duties entrusted upon him.

The young musicians were joined on stage by Tom Macleod who added an extra dimension to the bands makeup, indeed Tom seemed right at home with Greg Day on bass, Jack Fairbrother on guitar and drummer Andy White that those who attended the gig would have been happy to hear his talent on show with the band’s own personal flair.

The band had grudgingly cut short their set due the vocalist’s illness but still managed to fit seven songs into the set list, all of which were taken from their album After the Fight. These included the wonderful Jane Says Left and The Winner.

The five young lads finished an indisputably superb show with The World’s Not Ready, something tells me that after this first appearance in Liverpool, the world certainly is.
