The Williamson Tunnels might not be the first venue in Liverpool that springs to mind when thinking of places to hold a gig, even within the city of Liverpool, it can be a surprise to people who have lived here for years that it holds within its brick walls the ability to host some amazing gigs. It was also no less than perfect for one of Liverpool’s most favourite adopted sons, Richard O’Flynn and his new band All We Are.

Anyone who has caught Richard’s live performances over the last few years since graduating from L.I.P.A can’t have helped themselves from loving the music he has created . This new stage in Richard’s life though sees a new dynamic; more self-assured man who proves that he can be more than a musician with a guitar turning out sensational and haunting songs.

All We Are arrived on stage to warm applause, by the end of their set; Richard, Luis Santos and the excellent Guro Gikling were being cheered off the stage like returning victors. It was a scene that gladdened the heart and it was certainly well deserved as they produced a set of quality and timing.

Amongst the songs played during their limited time on stage were Dynamite, the tremendous I Fantasize, the very beautiful spectacle of Siren Song and the outlandish and drum crunching Molly.

It could be easy to say but since teaming up with Guro and Luis, there is something different about Richard, not so much more happy but more at peace with himself and his place within the scheme of things. That’s not to say the fire has left him, as that would be a tremendous waste of Celtic talent, more that he is even more adept to face what is thrown at him and the other members of All We Are.

The band finished off a wonderful night with the appropriate Tunnels and Card House. The three members of this remarkable band took their leave with the applause still ringing in their ears long after the next band went on stage.

A great night and a welcome return to Liverpool.
