Money has a habit of making the previously virtuous become greedy, almost ready to become a monster tied to the pursuit of its lure and the filth that can come with it arriving out of the blue and too much, too soon. If money makes the world go round then it’s surprising at times that any Bank worth its lecherous salt hasn’t dibbed ownership on the speed and velocity and tried to see it off in a hedge fund.

A Little Chaos, Film Review. Picturehouse@F.A.C.T., Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

Cast: Kate Winslet, Stanley Tucci, Jennifer Ehle, Alan Rickman, Helen McCrory, Matthias Schoenaerts, Steven Waddington, Danny Webb, Adrian Schiller, Adrian Scarborough, Pauline Moran, Phyllida Law, Morgan Watkins, Henry Garrett, Alistair Petrie, Adam James.

There are films in which the abundance of talent on offer simply overwhelms the story line, the procession of acting nobility so engulfing, so crushing, that the film dies a thousand scripted deaths; it never truly lives up to the dignity envisioned off screen and the grace offered in the initial stages of casting. Thankfully this is not the issue when it comes to A Little Chaos.

Testament Of Youth, Film Review. Picturehouse@F.A.C.T, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

Cast: Alice Vikander, Kit Harington, Dominic West, Emily Watson, Colin Morgan, Hayley Atwell, Taron Egerton, Miranda Richardson, Joanna Scanlan, Niamh Cusack, Anna Chancellor, Jonathan Thurlow, Charlotte Hope, Henry Garrett, Daisy Waterstone, Harry Atwell, Nicholas Le Prevost, Nicholas Farrell.

The Testament of Youth is such that it carries more weight at times than the blinkered, narrow-minded view point of a generation that doesn’t see the damage it has wrought.

Foyle’s War, Elise. Television Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

Cast: Michael Kitchen, Honeysuckle Weeks, Ellie Haddington, Rupert Vansittart, Tim McMullan, Daniel Weyman, Leo Gregory, Jesse Fox, Colin Connor, Simon Hepworth, Conleth Hill, David Ericsson, Julian Lewis Jones, Ronnie Fox, Henry Garrett.

All good things come to an end, some with a blast and some with an understated whimper. For Foyle’s War to contain both is quite possibly the single most maddening reason for this very successful police drama to finally come to its closure.
