Whitesnake, Slip Of The Tongue. 30th Anniversary Remaster. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

The past may be a foreign country, but that does not mean you shouldn’t visit it every now and then to re-evaluate the effect it has had on your present day mood or appreciations; if we left everything only to the ears of audio archaeologists then all our discoveries, all our loves, and sometimes aversions, are only to be interpreted by the sales and the critics words at the time.

Whitesnake, Gig Review. Genting Arena, Birmingham.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

As the Genting Arena, the latest name for the building passes in British music history as the old N.E.C., the stomping ground for nights in which the upbeat Blues and the pomp and ceremony associated with reverential Rock, the heavy guitar and the glorious pounding smile of satisfaction of sweat dripping down from the forehead, was plunged into darkness, a traditional meaty track came over the speakers and filled the hall with heart thumping gravitas and expectation.

Whitesnake, The Purple Album. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 8.5/10

As thank you notes go, The Purple Album is arguably one of the finest of the lot. No need to content yourself to putting a few acknowledgments on the sleeve notes, if there is time, then re-record, re-imagine the past and really say cheers, really say thank you with open arms and mean it. For David Coverdale the past is a very important place, he acknowledges that without it, his long and abundant career would never have taken off in quite the same way. For Whitesnake, for David Coverdale is the long and respected thank you, deserving a place in any Rock fans armoury.

It’s not for nothing that David Coverdale and Whitesnake are continually lauded as one of the fine rock acts of all time, both for their recording history but also for the minimalist but truly jaw dropping live sets. What other bands of the genre make up for in their set by using special effect after quirky special effect, Whitesnake just get down to business and entertains and drags kicking and screaming every bit of energy from every crowd that comes to their shows.
