The Floe, No Looking Back. Album Review.

Originally published by L.S. Media. April 30th 2010.

No Looking Back is the startling debut album by The Floe. Sensual, beautifully crafted and full of little surprises that will jolt you occasionally from the relative tranquility you will feel when you first play the album.

It is one of those albums that upon first listen will make you think that the world is a good place and nothing much can go wrong with it. Scratch underneath the surface though and listen closer to the lyrics and you will find a roller coaster of emotions waiting to be explored, dissected and enjoyed. This is especially true on the songs One Deep Breath and the lamentable Playing Safe; both songs capture the imagination and the subtleness of the music superbly.

One of the bands who were showcased during Liverpool Sound City week was The Floe. Led by the silky vocals of Sarah Springett they, along with many others provided the public of Liverpool with some new bands to take in and admire.

Now, as part of the Cafe Nero artist of the month, three of the band were back to seek an audience in the ambient atmosphere of Liverpool One. Joining Sarah were guitarist David Booth and keyboard player Liz Townsend, and although slightly cramped in the setting they were in, they still managed to thrill those who maybe just popped in for a coffee on their way home or took time out to go along and see them after their excellent night in Hannah’s Bar.

For those that may have worried about the future of the band The Floe when the foursome went their separate ways, don’t worry, the two remaining members of the harmonious group, Sarah Springett and Liz Townsend, have regrouped, re-energised and gone back into the studio to record a stunning and sensual new E.P. The aptly named Simple Pleasures captures the two talented women at their very best and at their most dedicated.
