Silently Out To Sea.

Still they stand,

wedged hard and rusting in the glow of

sunrise… sunset

and the tides that cover them in between,

these men of unblinking perspective

and who show their contempt

for Humanity by turning their back

ever away from the shore line

and the gaze of seagulls,

punished for their insane chattering

and their dogged resistance to change.

Though blind from birth, they see all

and in the whispered delusions that reach

their ears from screams of children

and the agony of parenthood,

Pixels, Film Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 3/10

Cast: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad, Matt Lintz, Brian Cox, Sean Bean, Jane Krakowski, Dan Aykroyd, Affion Crockett, Lainie Kazan, Ashley Benson, Denis Akiyama, Tom McCarthy.

It is funny how often you can be suckered into watching a film in which you know is going to give you the most amazing premise but somehow has less chance of delivering upon the promise of good times and stomach aching laughter than a President being so well adored that the American voters would allow them any indiscretion going. They wouldn’t even clamour for their impeachment if they were caught in bed playing an out of tune flute whilst whispering sweet nothings to the Russian Ambassador as they talked of handing back Sarah Palin and the state of Alaska back to Moscow.

Waterloo Sunset During Daylight Hours.

The once proud five lamps

that used to light the way

for the edge of a village

on the frayed hem

of the outskirts of Liverpool,

that trams would

sit idly by before returning

to the glamour on offer,

are now silent, forgotten

to all but the curious and the

mindful preservers of

the fabric  of society with

chequered cloth waiting appeal

and the dinner time stamp of approval

as they raise their glasses

and whisper cheers in the dark.

Hal Cruttenden, Comedy Review. Pleasance Courtyard, Edinburgh, Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

Mean, moody, a man with more chips on his shoulder than N.W.A. had hits in the U.K. and one man you wouldn’t want to cross or exchange a dirty look with…of course that’s the interpretation of the comedic genius that resides deep in the heart of one of the most cheerful and amiable men arguably in the world today.

Chopin’s Last Stand, Theatre Review. Zoo, Edinburgh, Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

Cast: Phil Aughey.

The allure of the Edinburgh Fringe is such that no matter where in the world the theatre company or performer is based, the call of the Scottish lowlands and gentility of Edinburgh is never too far away. Especially when it offers a perspective of a composer of such repute as Chopin but told with great nerve to highlight his time in the country before his early passing from Tuberculosis, such is the effects of Chopin’s Last Stand.

Inspector Reid is missing and after the events in recent Whitechapel history it’s not a bad thing that his life is to be missing from the annals of the area’s police investigations, for who would trust a murderer, even one provoked, to carry out the biggest job in the London?

Fables: Witches. Graphic Novel Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

The legend behind the Fables of The Farm and those displaced from both their natural worlds and Bullfinch Street in New York might end up relying upon the actions of two of the great witches that reside on the side of the greater community. For in Frau Totenkinder and the young but powerful Ozma, all the fighting for survival so far has been one in which their true selves have managed to keep out of the limelight, all that now is over and the real war begins.

The Nor’ Loch.

The heaving Northern metropolis

torrential with the sound of expectant, excited feet

is but for a short while,

quiet, serene and calm on the Sunday morning

as actors and performers rest after the shows

of the week and the laughter

that has followed them to the silence

of their dressing room

and the chance encounter

with the fan captivated by the show

and to whom the acquiring of the photograph

with their

new next day idol

is something to look back upon in dusty years

The Titanic Orchestra, Theatre Review. Pleasance Courtyard, Edinburgh, Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

Cast: Ivan Barnev, Stuart Crowther, John Hannah, Heidi Niemi, Jonathan Rhodes.

The strains of The Last Waltz, perhaps the loneliness of Nearer To My God Than Thee or the finality of Autumn should with illusion be observed and be heard as the lives of four alcoholic tramps living the same existence day in, day out on the railways is suddenly interrupted by the appearance of another, a man who can see their lives and the fantasy of humanity’s deception that lives in them all
