In Praise Of The Piano Man.

The man with the velvet collar

and the impressive skills on the piano

once sang a song for me

across the white crested waves

between the past

in the undiscovered Bronx

and my home in Bicester

and I could not help but be saved

I put a dime in the juke box

and I believed all what the Piano Man sang

about the ups and downs of a life well lived

and how at times the girl gets away

but if your fortunate enough

Plague.

I fear that that the plague under the skin,

first suffered as I entered the twilight of being considered

young, has returned as the itch of skin flares

and erupts like the seeded grumblings of Vesuvius

as her townsfolk gathered in blissful ignorance.

I am exhausted, yet words continue to flow

and they mock the carrier, taunting that somewhere

under the surface, next to the silvery fish like scales

that threaten to burst

and pulse and spread across my body once more,

causing anger and confusion as the pain in my back

LEGO Jurassic World (PS4), Game Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

LEGO Jurassic World is an action adventure platform game available from retail stores and for download from the PlayStation Store for the PS4, PS3 and PS Vita.

Jurassic Park originated as a novel by Michael Crichton in 1990 about how genetic research was not an urgent matter and was therefore utilised for the purpose of entertainment by preserving extinct animals in a wildlife park. Steven Spielberg adapted the book into the popular film Jurassic Park in 1993 followed by an adaptation of the novel’s sequel The Lost World in 1997, while Joe Johnston directed a third film in 2001 with Colin Trevorrow directing a fourth film in the series 14 years later called Jurassic World which shares the name of the 1997 re-publishing of Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park and The Lost World novels into a single book.

Jonathan Strange And Mr. Norrell, Television Review. B.B.C.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * * *

Cast: Bertie Carvel, Eddie Marsan, Marc Warren, Charlotte Riley, Alice Englert, Samuel West, Enzo Cilenti, Paul Kaye, Edward Hogg, Brian Pettifer, Ariyon Bakare, Vincent Franklin, John Heffernan, Richard Durden, Robbie O’ Neil, John Sessions, Clive Mantle, Lucinda Dryzek, Ronan Vibart.

For all the other channels and subscriber based ways of watching television, for all the smoke and mirrors of television programmes being played out endlessly and arguably without diligence and care for the viewers intelligence, when the B.B.C. gets something completely right it normally becomes the best thing to have been seen in the comfort of your armchair all year and in Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell such worthy praise and lofted heights is needed.

Midge Ure, Gig Review. The Atkinson, Southport.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

There are few finer voices than that of Midge Ure, especially when the vast majority of the evening spent in his company at the Atkinson in Southport is listening to an album that, arguably unfairly, was played against the workings of corporate turmoil and interference. There are times in life when you know that just want to hear the artist being lauded for them alone, not having an agenda pushed down their throat, it’s bad enough in the democracy of a band but when it comes against what is an especially beautiful solo album such as Breathe, that’s when you know the agenda has got rotten.

Minions, Film Review. Picturehouse@F.A.C.T., Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision * * * *

Cast: Sandra Bullock, Pierre Coffin, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney, Steve Coogan, Jennifer Saunders, Geoffrey Rush, Steve Carell, Katy Mixon, Michael Beattie, Hiroyuki Sanada, Dave Rosenbaum.

They seem to be everywhere and perhaps with good reason, for in amongst all the merchandising, the paraphernalia, the produce and products making the type of money on the side that would help towards a small nation’s debt, there is no doubt that the Minions, the real stars of the Despicable Me films, are big, bigger in some child’s and possibly some adult’s mine too than John Lennon.

A Grecian Earn.

How long before the nation goes under the hammer

and its people sold as slaves to counteract

the weight of expectancy being urged

in a propaganda battle against Humanity?

Part of me wants them to fight on,

to deliver a black eye to the lords of high finance

and make them blush for the years they treated

a proud nation to the point where they become

the equivalent of Poundland,

the cheap shopping centre for the sun blessed and

morally out of step as they forget that the point

Hegarty, Gig Review. Zanzibar Club, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 8.5/10

The invitation must have been sent round the entire Liverpool music loving public, the words command performance perhaps not quite in evidence as the letter, e-mail or text message was steamed open and poured over with great intent and undisguised glee, but the intention was inferred and undeniable. Hegarty expected and received a following inside the Zanzibar Club so large that Noah himself would have found it impossible to find space for a pair of glow worms to dance the night away comfortably without stepping on the shoes of the faithful.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

The Huyton Minstrel looks down from upon the Zanzibar stage, stares into the eyes of anyone who is willing to catch his gaze and then without a moment’s hesitation, delivers the words of an angry, politically charged and unafraid poet right down the throats of the ever increasing mass of population that has made its way into the heart of the city on a dripping sweat and air still day.

Nina Fian, Gig Review. Zanzibar Club, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

The near regal stance of Nina Fian as she performs at Zanzibar is akin to being asked to look at the majesty of Everest for the first time or to look deep into the heart of the Australian aboriginal tribes and try and describe just how beautiful and awe-inspiring Uluru is as a notion, an idea in which a thousand singing spirits can be heard lamenting the loss of Time.
