There are fewer finer sights than to see a man in full flight on a stage at the Zanzibar. Peter ‘Digsy’ Deary may appear understated but the man is a legend in Liverpool, a man who, like a few others from the area, commands respect and when he doesn’t get it, it not only rankles him, but the band and his legion of fans as well.

Does This Train Stop on Merseyside? The Very Best Of Ian Prowse. Album Review.

Originally published by L.S. Media. April 8th 2012.

L.S. Media Rating *****

You only have to listen to the first track on The Very Best of Ian Prowse to know that not only is this an album of distinction and that if you cut him open, from every open pore and scratched surface would run the Mersey River, the biggest and most truthful aspect of the album is that it is Liverpool.

Counting Crows, Underwater Sunshine (Or What I Did On Our Summer Vacation). Album Review.

Originally published by L.S. Media. April 9th 2012.

L.S. Media Rating ****

Perhaps they were after the longest album title of the year, thankfully the new offering from Counting Crows, Underwater Sunshine (Or What I Did On Our Summer Vacation) doesn’t detract from the incredible sound that comes out of the speakers at you. It doesn’t so much as crash out at you at a speed that’s unfathomable, it more meanders, slowly, carefully, sits down at your table, eats a few meals with you and before you know it, you wonder how it managed to hang around and become essential listening.

Accept, Stalingrad. Album Review.

Originally published by L.S. Media. April 10th 2012.

L.S. Media Rating ****

Arguably one of the best Heavy Metal bands to come out of Germany, Accept have released one of their finest albums in years and even though to the person who dips in and out of the genre and whose knowledge stops at the moment where “it becomes too loud” it has to be said they are missing out on an album of incredible intensity and sublime electric guitars coupled with lyrics that dig beneath the heart of any metal fans psyche and the reason why the music speaks to more and more fans.

WOW – A celebration of the Music, Lyrics & Dance of Kate Bush, Gig Review. Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

Originally published by L.S. Media. April 13th 2012.

L.S. Media Rating ****

Above all else, Kate Bush’s music has endured beyond recognised boundaries as she releases albums that not only stand the test of time over and over again but also have sold phenomenally without any assistance that touring would bring.

There may have been the odd one or two in the audience, hardly believing their luck, that would have been in the audience the only time Kate Bush actually played in Liverpool and they would have been the only ones to be there over 30 years later from that date to hear the sensational talent of Maaike Breijman go through two sets of the most sensual, inspiring and classic music from one of the queens of British popular music.

L.S. Media Rating ****

To say Howard Jones is a consummate professional would be something of an understatement. Even though he appears to be one of the most laid back men to ever play to a packed o2 Academy Liverpool crowd, don’t let the easy going nature fool you. This is a model musician who wants his night to be as memorable and enjoyable as possible.

Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists. Film Review.

So the truth is out, Queen Victoria was a lover of fine dining of exotic endangered animals including panda bear. Charles Darwin looked suspiciously related to his manpanzee Mr. Bobo and pirates are just as nice and thoughtful, well-spoken people who plunder their way across the high seas only because there is a shiny trophy at the end of the year. At least this is how it works in the utterly absorbing world of Aardman Animations and the world of stop-motion film.

Wrath Of The Titans. Film Review.

Cast: Sam Worthington, Rosamund Pike, Bill Nighy, Edgar Ramirez, Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson, Danny Huston.

Wrath of the Titans brings back the idea of the big screen epic that the Lord of the Rings franchise enjoyed much deserved success with and with a cast list that some Hollywood and British directors would pawn the family silver to have appeared in their film.

L.S. Media Rating ****

For those that may have worried about the future of the band The Floe when the foursome went their separate ways, don’t worry, the two remaining members of the harmonious group, Sarah Springett and Liz Townsend, have regrouped, re-energised and gone back into the studio to record a stunning and sensual new E.P. The aptly named Simple Pleasures captures the two talented women at their very best and at their most dedicated.

The Endings, Gig Review. o2 Academy, Liverpool.

When Matt Breen walked on stage at the Cavern Pub in 2011, armed with only a guitar, cracking lyrics and an attitude that you sometimes think is missing from new bands today; it wasn’t a stretch of the imagination to think of this young man, not even 17 at the time, and his excellent group The Endings, going further and better than is normally possible for a band so young.
