If Ian Siegal doesn’t know how he does it then what hope is there for the rest of us? Then to be fair, as long as Ian Siegal can do it then all we have to do is sit back and enjoy the gravel toned singing Bluesman as he continues to thrill fans and live audiences.

Radio has come a long way since its early days. It has seen many advancements, dedicated music channels, digital, analogue being banished to the wasteland of history but still lingering on coughing and spluttering in a superhuman effort to keep a vessel of the past open. Pop stars come and go and in some cases come back again and of course the advent of talk radio, the small bubble in which people can lose their rag at a voice a hundred miles away and confess all to an aural-voyeuristic nation. It seems nothing is off limits and when it comes to Sex and the Suburbs, everybody has a story to tell and an opinion to express.

One of the most overwhelming features of the Sin City series is that of family. In a neo-noir world in which you would expect a dystopian vision to be lurking on every black and white panel drawn and scripted by Frank Miller, the surprising comfort afforded to the reader is that of the tight unit in which many of the characters are drawn into.

There are many times that you can listen to a new band and think if only you had been around a few years earlier, you would have been massive. Regardless of what you think of the groups, musicians, boy bands, girl singers, the sometimes baffling and occasionally downright insulting that has graced the British pop charts since 1988, at times you find a nugget so good that you can but hold it close and hope they do well.

Where do you go when for the last few years you have had just the most incredible success and plaudits falling over themselves to place the band you are in as one of the most of the important of the first past of the 21st Century? Probably the only sane answer would be to tear it all down and rebuild again and that is exactly what Glenn Hughes and Jason Bonham have done with their new music offering California Breed and their debut self-titled album.

Listen…the applause at the end of the performance says it all. Dylan Thomas’ seminal classic Under Milk Wood has the power to catch the attention of anybody willing to open their ears and truly pay attention for a couple of hours.

How you deal with last minute adversity is how you can be perceived by an audience. Many is the time when a group of any genre persuasion has seen disaster heading straight their way, like an American College comedy being completely misplaced in British cinemas, and have panicked and the start of many an argument come their way. It is inevitable and it is part of life. If you greet that split second choice between carrying on and making an audience still enjoy the gig and respect you all the more then arguably as a band you have succeeded.

The spirit of The International Pop Overthrow isn’t perhaps in the meaning of Pop but in the two words either side of it, International, for which it always is and Overthrow.
International is fairly self-explanatory when it comes to watching a lot of music from as far away as you can think of and the exotic nature in which those bands play, the beautiful way a band from Spain can enlighten your day just as much as group as close to home as coming from the same part of the city as the wandering visitor to the Cavern Club. Overthrow though should perhaps arguably be looked upon as overthrowing not the old order of pop supremoes, who have given so much pleasure, especially the period between 1963 and 1988, but the overthrowing of your mind and opening it up to a realm of exciting new possibilities. It isn’t perhaps Revolution but evolution.

In amongst it all, life throws you the occasional musical curve ball in which to relish. At any festival it impossible to see every band, especially when the organisers find 140 of them in which to treat your taste buds to. All you can do is see the ones you really want to see and then hope you have enough left in the stamina box to see a couple that have alerted your radar and in which to check out.
