Majestic and stately, the modern Godfather of the grandiose and the beautiful Blues; in another time Joe Bonamassa would have sat at the high table with the great and the good and already have volumes of books dedicated to his output and imposing creativity sitting on library shelves and be revered across the mists of time; the down fall of such lauded attitude would be that many now would not see the glory of performance, instead it would just be another story in which older Blues fans played up to.

The silent majority stay silent either through fear or through reckless choice, perhaps with the thought hammering at the back of their minds that there may be an advantage of financial gain or swift advancement if they don’t condone or speak up about the evils that society is capable of enacting on behalf of its Government; it a silence that is as despicable as the actions that are perpetrated and as wicked as history sees fits to write about.

Liverpool is a truly remarkable place. You can spend ten years immersed in the arts scene here, you can think that you have seen everything, in all of the many performance spaces that the city has to offer, from the great parks and the Williamson Tunnels, to the bastions of entertainment of The Empire, Playhouse and Echo Arena, taking in the myriad of large and small venues in between and then you can find yourself in a large room, in a gallery, high above Matthew Street and even there, in this fair city, if you look hard enough, you will find theatre.
The artistic youth of Liverpool have huge boots to fill, that much has been true since it Brian Epstein realised just how important the four young lads occupying the Cavern stage one weekday dinner time were to defining the city and an era. Not only in music to which many great bands and musicians have made several generations happy as they while away in contentment to the sound of the day but also in the world of acting; the world of theatre and film is awash with the familiar faces of many famous Liverpool actors; following in the footsteps as large as David Morrissey, Kim Cattrall, Drew Schofield and Jennifer Ellison is hard work but for Lewis Pryor that calling is loud and clear and he appears to be enjoying the cause to which he and many of generation are heeding the call.

It is in the richness of performance, in the attention to the madness to come as the idea of witchcraft in the young colonies and towns that made up the New England Commonwealth, which makes The Witch such a startling and intriguing film in which to savour.

Consistency is always a given attribute and always wished for but it is a rare and beguiling thing that few really attain, the expected dip perhaps in form, the slide into the possible mediocre or the distraught finding that it was all just one album to far, a career of consistent beauty, of a dramatic and sensual voice captured each and every time, not everyone gets that luxury but then not everybody has The Best of Eddi Reader on their side.
