When the inevitable breakdown in society comes, would you be searching for the best place to hide and wait it out till the authorities find a way to exert control back or would you spend it in a locked room talking about the breakdown in your personal life and that of those you love. It is a question many will hope to never answer but as Thomas Oléron Evans explores in his play to stage production An Everyday Apocalypse, sometimes the end of the world is a lot closer to home than we ever imagine.

Monty Python lives and breathes, you just got to look for it under different names and be wary of the ones that don’t so much leave you having enjoyed the surreal nature of the event unfolding as more than open to thrash a pretend animal on its behind.

For budding Python, for the life of Brian or Jesus you didn’t see, Simone Tani’s and Carmen Arquelladas’ Resurrection Half Price is a blast of surreal moments put together so well that each segment is bordering upon genius and fully embraces madness.

Winter is always coming; it just depends on how far you are willing to go in which to protect yourself against the savagery of war that plunges mortal beings into the ways of the warrior. Frost calls and the Huntsmen go in search of more lands to steal; it might not sound like a fairy tale but The Huntsman: Winter’s War is no story in which to consult The Brother’s Grimm over, this is a made up sequel of its own creation.

The whisper that Time

says goodnight in

is only as forceful

as you wish

it to be, as beautiful

as you allow it and as outrageous

as you dare it, Time cares

not in the end how you take

note of the whisper, only

that you hear it, only that it will

with me, I cannot twirl my moustache

It is rare to find yourself in the company of a rampaging jungle beast or the anger of an animal of the plains, one that has come home from a long tiring day at work hunting wildebeest and stamping the timecard without success only to find that their partner has run out of sauce to smother the kill. Anger, boiling rage and seething fury, the lion and the rhino may have it all in abundance when consuming or giving into their very nature, their animalistic experiences but it is nothing when compared to the temper of a band throwing themselves into the pit of aggression with indignation drawn and flashing like a ceremonial blade against the desert sun.

Being able to express yourself beyond society’s insistence and self-imposed boundaries is one way to pick an earnest fight with those whose opinions are constrained by their own inadequacies. Whether it’s an artist, a sportsperson, an academic or even a city’s own self worth against the limitations forced upon it, expressing yourself is the ultimate put down to that presumed self-hating society.

Forget To Breathe In Rust.

Breathing fresh blustery

April air as I admire the view of

the rusting Iron Men dotted

along at intervals and in which

fixed steely glazed eye

turn their gaze to wind farms

and the Irish coast

over horizons and the seabed

churning as a lost shoal of fish

dance beneath the waves

of amber under relentless sun

to come it is hoped in Summer

I look inward

and reflect upon the amber hue

of disappointment, of days passed

and slept through memories,

The Lake Poets, Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

There is so much regret, so much intense remorse and mourning that comes across in The Lake Poets self titled new album that the listener has to place a steely resolve between the heartbreaking emotion on offer and the warmth of unbridled sentiment that is captured with passion and genius. The regret of a single person might be missed in the pointing of fingers and loud roars of accusations, especially when that person’s genuine protests of innocence have been ignored, however it only takes one person willing to listen to understand the truth and to be moved by it completely.
