A room full of Mirrors can be the most illuminating tool, it can capture light and throw it around like truths in a wilderness of tangled lies, it can show the flaws and imperfections, it can enhance the reflection and make it whole; depending on which way you look at anything in one, you can see yourself clearly and all that you are.

In men it is arguable that it is perhaps to be expected, we nod approvingly at the way they defy convention and wish that our own children would take the plunge and seek adventure.

What are the greatest of gifts you can give anybody, it isn’t anything you can wrap, you can’t spend it, you cannot offer it as a prize, for then the truly worthy don’t receive it and the undeserving don’t value it. Time, compassion, patience and the ability to listen without expecting to have to answer back, these are the greatest gifts and as a species we have become very bad at offering these moments to people without expecting some kind of reward.

It is perhaps one of the quirks of cinema that a film can achieve much on the big screen and yet its two follow ups seem to drift away from the limelight without even being seen by anyone, such is the precarious nature sometimes of producing a modern noir that might seem unpalatable to anyone outside of the fan or the seriously interested viewer.
