Rachael Wright, Gig Review. Zanzibar, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * * *

If ever they find out what the result is when you combine elegance, sophistication, touchingly beautiful lyric writing with more than a hint of sensuality and the double edge of barbarism that can be so sadly missing from some female performers, the clever money will be betting that somewhere along the line the name Rachael Wright will be plastered throughout its D.N.A.

The Vinos, Gig Review. Zanzibar, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

As the music died down from what was in effect an outstanding, beautiful and admittedly cool set given The Vinos, somewhere in the back of the minds of those who attended Zanzibar on a day where the temperature seemed most oppressive and the sweat running off every citizen in the city collectively could have matched, if not bettered, the volume of the River Mersey at its highest tide, that this band, which has been together for less than a year, already needs to be thinking of performing in a venue that can really see them kick off and become the stars that their music more than suggests they can be.

Sirens, Gig Review. Zanzibar, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

Liverpool is not known for its love of the heavier side of rock, the small dalliance that could be erring on the side of metal is something that local band Buckle Tongue has got round by performing with intelligence and guile whilst remaining true to their core belief, because of one band leading the way, Sirens can now tread in more harsher boots and start to crush their own path in the area.

liverpool Sound And Vision: The Saturday Supplement, An Interview With Eddie John Fortune. (2)

The heat in Liverpool, even at ten in the morning, has begun to drain people and what feels like the longest heat-wave since 1976 takes on the atmosphere in the city and it feels strangely quiet around the area of St. Luke’s as crowds flock to river to get some sea breeze and seek some sort of shelter against the summer sun. One man though who forever seems in good spirits and who can turn an overcast, thundery day into a ray of sunshine is Eddie John Fortune.

Liverpool Sound And Vision: The Saturday Supplement, An Interview With Anna Corcoran.

Anna Corcoran’s voice and beautiful melodies have earned her a great accolades and plaudits for her work, especially alongside her great friend Robert Vincent and since the release of her E.P., Anything Better, the owner of that recognisable voice has just kept growing in stature and quite rightly so.

Before she took to stage at The Unity Theatre, Anna took time out from the worries of the day to music world and relaxed in the café and loosened up before her show she spoke of her new video for the outstanding single The Show, her work on the E.P. and the reasons why she still calls Liverpool her home.

The Price Of A T-Shirt In Manhattan.

The sound of cheap laughter flowed across the bar of Harry’s Hula Hut.

The half-suppressed sneers, hilarity and piss taking at the English

Lad who said he could earn one of the shirts on the wall,

Only resolved my focus further to own the shirt that had entranced me

Since I first step foot in the door with Geoff and Carlos as they fought back

The crowds in search of the women they had chatted up

Earlier in the day.

I had spent my afternoon taking it easy, a visit to the Marvel Offices,

Crumbs Theatre Bring Jackie And Eddie, Eddie And Jackie To The Unity.

Does life imitate art or is it just something that stalks Eddie and Jackie? Jackie and Eddie are two (failing) actors living in Dingle. Eddie is armed with a dusty typewriter, meditation and a teddy bear (Stanislavski The Bear), Jackie a new diet, (jogging and eating at same time) another bad date and choosing the wrong roles.

Presented by Crumbs Theatre, sees the two friends feeling frustrated by each other’s company, comparing their lives to stages of Madonna’s career. Eddie is feeling ‘frozen’ by his ex-boyfriend and in a rut with the Job Centre. And Jackie is just feeling that her last audition was as bad as ‘Swept Away’.

Buffalo Summer, Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

Some albums announce themselves with a whimper, the cry of a terrified mouse confronted with the agonising choice of seeing a million traps before him or the faithful household cat stalking him from behind. Others roar as you would expect a majestic lion would on the Serengeti, full of deep meaning and warning those not to come too near him lest they get hurt in the process. Buffalo Summer’s self-titled 2011 release goes beyond the imagery of a the imposing king of beasts in its sweat and power of hard work as  it stampedes and crushes all who stand foolishly in its wake.

Dave O’Grady. Gig Review. Unity Theatre, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

Dave O’ Grady is just one of those musicians that no matter how many times you see him during a year he still manages to make the gig you are attending feel as though it is the most important gig you will ever see him perform at. His manner is intoxicating and the voice he possess an absolute gift to audiences, so much so that whether you catch him on the street or in the acoustically dramatic venues such as Leaf or the main theatre inside the Unity on Hope Place, crowds will take him to their heart and the superb music along for the ride as well.
