Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10
There is seeing an certain opportunity, and then there is the effect that a Chance Worth Taking has on the mind, one seems calculated, often designed, gouged with determination out of stone and placed in the pantheon of marbled thought that seems to be congratulated out of simplicity by an awaiting audience, nodding sagely as if completely enthralled and patiently abiding; and yet there seems to be a kind of earthly magic, a spell cast with love and heart rather than conspicuous premeditation…and it is to this that the effect on those on the receiving end of this chance should focus their adoration upon, for it more human, more complex, and a darn sight more beautiful.
Marc Broussard’s all original Blues Soul album, a first for the artist, is a recording that utilises with tremendous modern Blues godfather, Joe Bonamassa, is one naturally conceived out of that beauty, out of a working relationship guided with Josh Smith and Calvin Turner, and the production is such that not only does the album sound terrific, full of stimulating ideas, but it is a gorgeous accolade to behold as a listener; a sound so rich and rigorous that it could be heard in quiet solitude and still have the resonance shaking the foundations of a building a hundred miles away.
From tracks such as You’ll Be Sorry, No More Feat, Let Me Take You Tonight, Sweet Love, the excellent Satisfaction Guaranteed, Trying To Do The Right Thing, and I’m Going Home, Marc Broussard delivers with style, expected absolutely, but with a sense of timeless longing and aspiration, of a definitive moment shared and one that brings the heart racing to the fore, and it reflects that beauty striven for with grace.
In an age of creativity highs, it is almost impossible to stand out from the crowd, Marc Broussard opens the crack of enlightenment and courageously, humbly only asks that the listener sees the chance taken and revel in its outcome. Chance Worth Taking is always there for the taking; however it takes a special kind of musician and artist to see it flourish with aplomb.
