When Rivers Meet: Aces Are High. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

Aces are always high, for in a world where the Kings judge they are number one, they can be beaten by those they perceive to be the lowest denominator, and that sows the seeds of overwhelming brilliance from the true aces in the pack, the ones who grow and continue to be appreciated, and not because of imposed rank, but of dedication, natural flair, and a soul that is prepared to work and graft with a truth bursting put of every seam, every pore.

There are an abundance of musicians who rule the court of kings and queens, these are the aces in the pack, the victors of the modern age who trump all comers, and one of the cards that enthuses first pick is the sensational When Rovers Meet, and in their brand-new album, Aces Are High, that pick is always from the top of box.

Grace and Aaron Bond refuse limitations, the fact that have come so far in a relatively short period of time is testament to the strength of their conviction, and to the drama of expression they delve into as the music captivates, and the lyrical prowess dominates every sinew of the body.

Limitations are excepted by those who see nothing beyond a pair in the hand, who don’t see the possibility of winning the game with a flush, with a flourish, and if you need inspiring, then When Rivers Meet are the duo in which to back the musical aggression of when calling others bluff.

Following on from the superb We Fly Free and Saving Grace, Aces Are High is an album of paramount belief, the deck is stacked in its favour and as tracks such as the phenomenal opening belief of Infected, Seen It All Before, and Play My Game, the intriguing Perfect Stranger, 5 Minutes Until Midnight, and the gem of the title track Aces Are High, all position themselves as the River card, the one that proves to be the most important that you will be blessed with, of holding, of being in the company of.

No restrictions, no limitations, but crucially not going in blind, for the belief and confidence of know that you have two Aces up your sleeve is enough to be holding the pot of gold and the end of the listen.

When Rivers Meet release Aces Are High on One Round Records on Friday 8th September.
