Junior Dayvis, Elvis Is King. Single Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 8.5/10

Inside every human is a story waiting to come out, to be shared; it might not be a long tale, one of adventures, setbacks, of obstacles overcame, of glories gained, but it is a chronicle of events that deserves to be heard, to be understood, not as wishful thinking, but a contribution to society, to the pleasure that we took by proclaiming Elvis Is King, through to a privileged woman declaring herself as Queen of Hearts; stories happen, and all should be heard to understand the narrator and their life.

There is a belief, misguided, almost impudent, that states that if you have not found the way to tell your story by a certain age, then it must be kept deep in the psyche, never seeing the light of day, that ridicule would surely follow if you allowed your heart to soar to a place where the King is still alive and drawing crowds at Madison Square Gardens.

There is perhaps no better time to voice your words than once the moment of the youthful expression has given way to a more reflective stance, not to change the world, but to alter the Id, the self, and for Junior Dayvis, that time has come at the moment of the most astute timing; as a certain age dawns, the man releases his first single, Elvis Is King.

Not only has Mr. Dayvis plunged headfirst into the bearpit of debut singles, but the track itself is one of charm, of open-eyed wonder and acceptance, a conviction that nobody is going to stand in his way in finding the peace afforded by faith that a tale can be told at any age.

Elvis may be king, however, Junior Dayvis takes on the mantle we all wish to inhabit, President of our own destiny, the commissioner of translating our thoughts and our struggle into a piece of art that makes another smile, think, and hopefully adore. Elvis remains king, but Junior Dayvis has the common touch which grips our hearts and gives us all hope that one day we will be heard.
