Euan Blackman, Think About You. Single Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

We all like to believe that somewhere out there is someone who at this moment in time is unearthing a memory of you that had long been placed in a dusty corner of the attic like mind, that they have blown off the cobwebs and swiped the decaying spider of the ages past and watched it scuttle off on the floorboards in a huff, and that have seen you, relished in your now missed company and have smiled, broadly, grinning at something you once said, some look that you gave gives them reason to chuckle.

We all want someone to say that they have thought of you in a kind way, however as always there is the balance that must be weighed, and sometimes through no fault of our own they take an opposing view, like a handshake given without sincerity, they cannot wait to wipe the memory from the mind.

For L.I.P.A. student Euan Blackman, Think About You is a beautiful serenade with the charging atmosphere of the realisation of homesickness, the understanding that it is an emotion we cannot live without because it grounds us to those we love and honour but somehow buries with its red rose glasses, that the demand of freedom is counterbalanced with the tinge of regret of moving on.

The young man from Warwickshire has a point, has the benefit of being able to see that often choices made have their own two-way street and the single Think About You endears itself to that thought process and musical insight with sincerity, with grace and gets to grip with the young heart with much weight baring on its owner’s shoulders, the tell-tale sign of a mind in turmoil but dealing with it magnificently.

A wonderful debut from a newcomer to the Liverpool music scene, Euan Blackman eases himself in with a heartfelt plea, a thought of recognition to be remembered with kindness, to be think of home with a smile. Beauty and grace in one two-minute burst of new light.

Euan Blackman’s Think About You is out now.
