Georgie, Georgie: Live! Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

The recognition of the right atmosphere can be the most important factor in determining just how your soul is treated in the future; should you flounder and find yourself in the dark, the sound of your voice the only comfort, then you have chosen poorly, however, should you place your trust in the live setting and strike out with passion and honesty, then all is revealed as beauty.

The live album is one that most musicians strive to place before the audience, it is the epitome of the trustworthy performance that an artist wishes you to experience. A studio album is many things, concrete, determined, some argue that it can be raw and exclusive; in truth the unadorned live album is a pathway to greater introduction, all the frills are off, the soundbites are whispered rather than shouted to all corners of the room, and above all it is the one where feelings and emotions are framed within the true sense of being raw, the loved up primal urge to be intense but compassionate at the same time.

For Georgie, her landmark sold-out performance at Nottingham Trinity Church is one that burns brightly, her personality comes through in a way that a studio album cannot hope to contain, her voice is uncaged and allowed, persuaded, to be physical and materially beneficial.

Georgie: Live! is a testament to the belief that we should do more to encourage the artist, that being in the studio is not the be all and end all of the artistic journey, we should be demonstrating that more spaces are utilised if it means a person’s voice can be heard.

The album is a fiercely delivered tonic to the pursuers of the live experience and in songs such as the opening track, Life After Fear, It Ain’t You, It’s Me, Every Setting Sun, Love Me Like A Man, Beer Money, Chasing Kites and That’s When It Feels Like Love, the passion that is displayed is one that expands on the virtue of emotional substance, a free-wheeling journey into the realms of sanctuary and the heartfelt soul.

Georgie is a class act; caught in the sensuous atmosphere created she bestows panache and elegance to her audience which makes the soul weep with joy.

Georgie’s Georgie: Live! is out now and available via Soul Kitchen Records.
