Christopher Woodward’s One-Sided Love Is Coming To The Hope Street Theatre This August.

Being loved and being wanted are two totally different things.

Written by Christopher Woodward and directed by Caitlin Bradley and Zara Marie Brown, Likeminded Productions’ latest show is coming to Hope Street Theatre this August.

Set in the late 1970s, Christopher Woodward’s script shows the affair of Jasper and Iris, two journalists who go through all the stages of a workplace relationship, despite Jasper already having a girlfriend, Sarah. Patricia and Jeremy were an old flame gone wrong and now they are working together and then there’s Carl, an ambitious young man who is working his way up the ranks in journalism.

This piece of new writing deals with issues of love, lust, betrayal, insecurities, ambition and failure. We follow each of these characters on their journey and watch how their choices affect their lives and the lives of those around them.

This is Christopher Woodward’s second play to go to the stage and Likeminded Productions’ third following the two successful plays, The Man With No Identity and Life After Life. Mr. Woodward has mentioned that this show is loosely inspired by The Holiday which starred Cameron Diaz, Jack Black, Jude Law and Kate Winslet. Christopher said, “A few people who really look closely and really get the play will realise it’s a sort of back story of The Holiday. It’s not a spin off at all but I used the characters and circumstances to carry the story, I’m trying to tell with a twist.  As a writer, inspiration always comes from either your own experience or of your environment, that’s where I gained inspiration to write One-Sided Love.”

Likeminded Productions have been running for three years, they have produced plays, books and short films. This team includes Christopher Woodward, Ashley Ali, Andrew Smith and Caitlin Bradley. A well as the two aforementioned plays, their films have included Mindless and Unspoken. A new short film called King and Country and an event titled Theatre Addict are all to come in the future.

One-Sided Love was originally written for the radio, however when the script was released as a free download, the huge response and the positive feedback meant that the team decided to rewrite the script and create it for the stage.

Heading up the direction of the play are Caitlin Bradley and Zara Marie Brown. This is the first time they have worked together and it’s Caitlin’s directorial debut. Caitlin Bradley is a Liverpool theatre school graduate who is mostly known as an actress who has performed in productions such as Blood Wedding, Wind In The Willows and Perfectly Frank, however, she has directed a short film for Likeminded Productions. Zara is a director and producer. Recent productions include Gray for her company Decima Theatre.

Caitlin Bradley said, “Each of the characters in this show are incredibly relatable. Even if you have never experienced cheating or being cheated upon, you will see yourself or someone you know in these well-rounded characters. This show has a nostalgic feel of the 70s and 70s that we hope the audience will love as much as we do”.

The cast is made up of the following actor: Sophie Ward (Growth by Luke Norris & Game by Mike Barrett), Lew Freeburn (The Girl: The Cynthia Lennon Story & Killing Time), Emma Webber (Gray by Decima Theatre, A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Daniel Taylor Production), Steve Dean (Wise King) Deborah Elizabeth (Brexitus, Robin Hood directed by Martin William) and Daryl Holden (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Be More Chill with What We Did Next).

One-Sided Love is on at the Hope Street Theatre on Friday the 16th and Saturday 17th August at 7.30. Tickets for both performances are priced at £10. Tickets for the performances are available to purchase online.
