Liverpool’s Karaoke Royalty Wanted For Middle Child’s Us Against Whatever.

The Everyman and theatre company Middle Child are on the lookout for Liverpool’s best karaoke kings and queens, to belt out a song during the new show Us Against Whatever from 20th-23rd March.

Known for breaking the conventions of traditional theatre, Middle Child want audiences on stage to join the cast in performing some riotous karaoke.

Set in a northern karaoke bar, Us Against Whatever is an electrifying cabaret. Taking audiences back to 2016, with the Brexit vote on the horizon, the story follows Anna and Steph.  Both looking for a place to call home, Polish woman Anna is questioning her decision to move to the U.K. and Steph, from Hull, watches as her city changes under austerity.

Looking at the places we hold dear, Us Against Whatever is a big night out by award-winning Hull-based Middle Child. The production aims to set fire to expectations of what a night out at the theatre can be and audiences will be encouraged to join in by singing karaoke songs during the show.

Paul Smith, artistic director of Middle Child, said, “Us Against Whatever is a karaoke cabaret about the changing face of a northern city. It’s a good night out, featuring audience karaoke, with a belting story at the heart of it, about two young women trying to find a place to call home.

Although it’s set in Hull there are many parallels with Liverpool and it’s more broadly about what it means to come to and from cities like ours, and who gets to speak for the people who live in them.

We’re absolutely buzzing to bring it to the Everyman and it’s a real privilege to premiere the show here. We know how much this city loves karaoke and we can’t wait to party with our audience.”

Edyta Budnik (Killing Eve, B.B.C. Three), Adam Hadi (Warsaw Film School), Severine Howell-Meri (Cinderella and the Beanstalk, Theatre 503), Joshua Meredith (All We Ever Wanted Was Everything, Middle Child), Josie Morley (It’s Different for Girls, She Productions) and Emma Thornett (The Producers, Royal Exchange) will all star in the new production. Composer and musical director James Frewer (All We Ever Wanted Was Everything) will also perform in the show.

Us Against Whatever is created by Middle Child in association with Everyman & Playhouse and Hull Truck Theatre. Tickets are available by calling the Everyman & Playhouse Box Office on 0151 709 4776 or at: www.everymanplayhouse.com/us-against-whatever.
