With two sell-out tours in the bag last year, the iconic folk rockers Fairport Convention will return to The Atkinson in Southport on February 1st.

The legendary and award-winning group visit Merseyside as part of their 52nd year of touring, heading out on the road for over twenty live dates across the country in early 2019.

The show will also feature support by special guests The 4 of Us. Hailed as one of the most acclaimed duos in Ireland, brothers Brendan and Declan Murphy are accomplished singers, instrumentalists and songwriters After more than fifty years on the road, Fairport Convention’s passion for live performance has never wavered. This concert will showcase the band’s musical sophistication and instrumental virtuosity during a fascinating journey through their inspiring and extensive repertoire.

Renowned as the founding fathers of British folk-rock music, Fairport Convention has maintained consistently high standards for over five decades and remains as entertaining as ever. Still bold, still vigorous and still willing to take musical chances, an evening with Fairport never fails to dazzle and delight audiences.

The group has attracted critical acclaim throughout its long career. The band has won a coveted B.B.C. Lifetime Achievement Award, Radio 2 listeners have voted Fairport’s ground-breaking album Liege & Lief “The Most Influential Folk Album of All Time”, and their story and music frequently features on radio and television.

Fairport Convention has been making great music for over fifty years. Credited with originating British folk-rock music, the band has been through many changes but the current members retain a passion for live performance. This year’s Spring Tour will feature a mix of long-established Fairport favourites and new material from their most recent studio album 50:50@50 celebrating their Golden Anniversary.

Fairport Convention features Simon Nicol on guitar and vocals, Dave Pegg on bass guitar, Chris Leslie on fiddle, mandolin and vocals, Ric Sanders on violin and Gerry Conway on drums and percussion.
