Fiddle Player Mikey Kenney To Launch New Album At Leaf In Liverpool.

Critically acclaimed Liverpool musician Mikey Kenney will launch his brand- new album in the city this February.

Kenney is a fiddle player and balladeer from Liverpool, whose playing is steeped in both English and Irish traditional music. Well known as a constant traveller and collaborator, Mikey is a member of the acclaimed Robert Burns’ celebration Band of Burns, lead fiddler in the Liverpool Céilí Band and at work with Italian legend Vinicio Capossela. He also directs the cross-sea Irish traditional music collective, Hop the Sea.

Mikey’s last two releases – the Ottersgear albums, describing his time living in the Forest of Bowland, Lancashire – were released to critical acclaim with fRoots magazine awarding the most recent album, The Counsel of Owls, with a top 5/5 rating.

The latest project sees Mikey collecting, recording and performing fiddle tunes from around the North-West of England, particularly Lancashire, as well as documenting the travels of melodies that have crossed both the Irish Sea and the Atlantic. For much of this he is accompanied by his long-time musical partner, guitar and mandolin master Damon Kilcawley as Kenney & Kilcawley. Mikey Kenney launches his brand-new album, The Reverie Road (Penny Fiddle Records) at Leaf on Bold Street in Liverpool on Thursday 7th February. The launch event takes place in association with Mellowtone. Tickets are on sale now via Skiddle.
