Scottish Opera Performs Mozart Masterpiece In Liverpool- First Visit In 27 Years.

Scottish Opera’s hit production of The Marriage of Figaro, directed by the great British baritone Sir Thomas Allen, is coming to Liverpool’s Empire Theatre for two performances only, on the 5th and 7th January 2017.

The first production the Company has brought to the city since February 1990, The Marriage of Figaro features beautiful period designs by Simon Higlett, providing the backdrop to this timeless comedy of social revolution and change.

The role of Figaro is performed by former Scottish Opera Emerging Artist Ben McAteer (The Devil Inside 2016) and he is joined by Jette Parker Young Artists Samuel Dale Johnson as Count Almaviva and Anna Devin (Don Giovanni 2013) as Susanna. The exciting cast is conducted by Timothy Burke. Director Sir Thomas Allen said: “It has been some years since Scottish Opera was represented in Liverpool and certainly some years since I was here as a performer. So it is with particular pleasure that I’m able to join the company as director in this return with, arguably, the greatest masterpiece in the operatic repertoire.”

Alex Reedijk, Scottish Opera’s General Director added, “Mozart’s deliciously comic opera The Marriage of Figaro is an acclaimed production by Sir Thomas Allen which first delighted Scottish and Belfast audiences in 2010, with a wonderful cast. It is sure to entertain at the Empire Theatre, which we are thrilled to be visiting once again. There are only two performances in Liverpool so don’t miss the chance to see this wonderful opera.”

Diane Belding, General Manager at the Empire Theatre said, “We’re delighted to be welcoming back the renowned Scottish Opera for their first visit to the venue in over 25 years. We can’t wait to see the company’s production of Mozart’s classic The Marriage of Figaro on the famous Liverpool Empire stage, and we’re sure our patrons will be delighted to hear of the latest addition to our line-up for 2017.

Tickets for The Marriage Of Figaro are available to purchase from the Liverpool Empire Theatre Box office.
