Reach For The stars: Young Everyman Playhouse Explore Time And Space In New Play Quantum.

Having taken on politics in Until They Kick Us Out and then the state of the world in The Environmentalists, Young Everyman Playhouse (YEP) now take on the universe with their new production, Quantum. Using scientific experiments and multi-media projections, this promenade performance takes place from Wednesday 6th to Saturday 9th July.

Taking the starting point of Quantum Physics, YEP explore time and space, molecules and atoms, time travel and multiple universes. Quantum is a love story involving fate, chance, science, explosions, thought experiments and sheds.

Written by YEP Writers, produced by YEP Producers, performed by YEP Actors and with technical wizardry from the YEP Technicians programme, this intimate promenade piece promises to take the audience on a journey through our universe and the next, some different realities, and attempts to see if we exist or not.

YEP always look to push the boundaries and this ambitious show combines theatre, with science and technological innovation that is intrinsic to the storytelling. To create the show YEP Technicians have worked with American scientific manufacturer PASCO, Center for Complex Network Research at Northeastern University in Boston, Keele University and Professor of Astronomy Andy Newsam from LJMU.

The love story uses the spaces around the Everyman to help tell the story of Quantum, including the theatre bar, bistro, Ev1 and auditorium. Audiences will be split in to two groups and will follow different parts of the story during the show as part of the multiverse created in the production.

YEP Director Matt Rutter said, “We’re really looking forward to our first promenade performance inside the Everyman, giving audiences and the YEP company a different experience. While we were examining our relationship with planet in The Environmentalists it made sense that we would then look at our place in the Universe and how little things can make a huge difference to our existence.”
