I am afraid of the Sandman…
…I am afraid…
of closing my eyes at night
or during the day and knowing
that it could be the last time I do so
as I realise that the Sandman
is not just the spirit who puts you to sleep
but does so via violent dreams
and sprinkles encrusted poison
into your eyes that makes you groggy
and weak as you succumb naturally
to the smile of Morpheus …
I am afraid
of letting go and seeing the Sandman,
eagerly open the door
of the world and plunging into a nightmare
head on and tackling images
of craven Gods spit roasting me
over a fire for what seems an eternity
but to which started out with just
just the motion of requiring rest,
for that is how the day is wasted
for me,
sleep, I want no sleep
for it does me no good at all…
I am afraid.
