Young Everyman Playhouse Take On Greek Classic The Bacchae At The Everyman.

After wowing audiences with Until They Kick Us Out this Spring, Young Everyman Playhouse (YEP) return to the stage to take on the Greek tragedy The Bacchae from Thursday 7th to Saturday 9th May at the Everyman.

Having developed a reputation for their utilisation of a Greek Chorus in their work, Euripides’s classic tale is a natural fit for YEP. The award-winning company entices and tempts audiences into a world of delirium, ecstasy and risk as their ensemble of young actors put their own twist on this dark Greek tragedy.

Slighted at birth by his family, revenge plays heavily on Dionysus’s mind. He descends upon the Greek underworld to commit and control acts of bloodshed, lust, obsession and trance.

Watch as he lures mortals into lustful hazes, tricking them into a frenzied state of obsession and driving them out of the city and into the darkness of the woods. When madness and lust take hold, the wildness begins, gods get vengeful and blood gets spilt.

Director Chris Tomlinson said:“After devising our way to current political affairs with Until They Kick Us Out, and pushing the thoughts of civilisation involving future technologies with The Grid, YEP for the first time in the Everyman theatre main space, presents a scripted play and a heavy classic Greek tragedy at that!

With story line, structure, character and plot already in place, YEP looks to put its own unique stamp on this timeless tragedy. A play presented by 15 young actors. Another amazing collaboration with LIPA on the design and stage management, further strengthening relationships with young theatre makers of the future.”

Tickets for The Bacchae are priced at £7 and £5 and are available from the Box office, by telephone on 0151 7094776 or online at www.everymanplayhouse.com.
