The Ghosts Of Kirkdale Come To The Unity Theatre This July.

The abandoned children of Victorian Liverpool are brought back to life in Lyn Wakefield’s The Ghosts of Kirkdale which comes to the Unity Theatre on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th July.

Set in a workhouse-style industrial school in 1880’s Liverpool, a group of forgotten children struggle to overcome the hardships and harsh regime of the sinister Mr Goodridge who believes the children are a result of ‘laziness, drunkeness and vice’ and are mere ‘paupers’ getting what they deserve in this poignant tale of friendship and new beginnings.

Tragedy strikes during a bid to escape, but freedom comes from an unexpected quarter as they embark on a life-changing journey to a new land and better future. With a a delightful mix of familiar street songs, popular music of the era and comedy, the show is performed by a cast of Liverpool children from Action for Achievement and professional actors and singers.

Directed by Maureen Ann Bryan, Choreography by Leila Chebbi and musical direction by Tom Moss, The Ghosts of Kirkdale is a powerful, brand new play, suitable for all ages.

Tickets for The Ghosts of Kirkdale are priced at £5.50 and are available from the unity Theatre Box office on Hope Place, by telephone on 0844 8732888 or online at www.unitytheatreliverpool.co.uk.
