Scottie Road, The Musical. Theatre Review. Unity Theatre (2014)

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

Cast: Keddy Sutton, Gillian Hardie.

When Scottie Road, The Musical was first performed it was genuine piece of Liverpool humour delivered by two of the finest female talents around. One sequel later, a vast swathe of the population who make it their duty to support local theatre, no matter the size of the venue, left feeling enraptured and laughing so hard it would make an ice bun melt, the two stars of the show, Caz and Britney, take the audience back to where it all started, where the music first played and the threat of prison was something that came along on a really bad throw at Monopoly and just as then as it is now, the audience fell completely and utterly in love with it all.

Keddy Sutton and Gillian Hardie, bought the show back to the Unity Theatre and there is no doubt that these two fine comedy actors, nothing short of fabulous in what they do, have made the right choice in making audiences have something fantastic , frank and funny to look forward to in amongst the winter gloom and despair.

With nobody being spared the rod, not even the sainted B.B.C. icon Basil Brush; this show just hits the funny bone time and time again. With the sequel being highly praised in 2013, Scottie Road, The Musical is surely just a snippet of what the two fine women can do as a double act. Like Morecambe and Wise before them, different generation, slightly different humour but still just as good when all is said and done, there is room for them to grow, to be just outrageously good and respected for what they do. The corruption of song lyrics from West-End hits is excellent and the voices that the two performers bring to the stage, not only makes you laugh but stirs the heart as well. Gillian Hardie sings like a mischievous angel and the twinkle in both their eyes is enough to banish any bad mood.

For Keddy Sutton, long may she reign one of the funniest women around, even when moments of pure stage madness happen, this very professional woman can still turn her voice into a magical illusion of Marge Simpson, the crafty cunning of Bart and of course her beautifully witty Judy Garland in which to keep the show running and the audience more than amused.

Scottie Road, The Musical is just a great show to catch, full of brilliant fun and songs that catch the ear, a must for anybody with a sense of humour.
