John Waterhouse Teaches How To Relax In Andalucia At The Unity Theatre.

One man’s mission to find relaxation by a pool in the sun leads to a web of intrigue, crime and passion on Tuesday 2nd July.

Peter has recently been made redundant and got divorced. He is determined to make use of his new found freedom by just what Peter is looking for until three backpackers arrive; Carol, the ex-girlfriend of an English gangster, Saskia, an annoyingly friendly Dutch woman and Mick, a loud-talking, hard drinking Australian. Then a curious detective from England arrives on the scene. Peter is now on a quest to find solitude and relaxation.

How to relax in Andalucia, by John Waterhouse, is a comedy play set in a backpackers’ hostel in Southern Spain. The play was first performed in Salford in April 2012 and went to be received at the Buxton Festival Fringe.

This is John’s seventh play to be performed and as with some of his other plays, is inspired by travel experiences. John’s other plays include A visit to Eastern Europe, set in a hotel during a post-communist coup d’état and A very Scottish play, about ghostly happenings in a bed and breakfast on a remote Scottish island. The sequel to the Andalucia play, ‘How to relax in Amsterdam’, is due to premiered at Salford Arts Theatre in 2013.

John’s main influences are 60s and 70s British film and television comedy, with a love of classic radio comedy (in particular Hancock’s Half Hour and Round the Horne) and the earlier classic artists such as Laurel and Hardy, Will Hey and Norman Wisdom. This harks back to times when there was less cynicism in comedy, with the emphasis on essentially on entertaining and uplifting the audience

This is the first tour of the John’s production company, Casagua Productions, which has been formed around actors who have worked with him on other productions. It is planned to tour next year the sequel, How to relax in Amsterdam.
