All We Are, Gig Review. Leaf, Liverpool Sound City 2013.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

All We Are have been away from the stages and venues of Liverpool for a while and it is fair to say that the audiences have missed this eclectically brilliant band from their schedule of groups to see live. With Leaf having kicked off their weekend of music in the Sound City 2013 with some superb music, some that might be impossible to replicate again it was that good, there are very few groups that could have matched the intensity of what had gone on before but then there are very few bands like All We Are.

One of the last times they performed in the city was their excellent night alongside Hey Carrianne and Stealing Sheep at St. Bride’s Church. That night the atmospheric tunes they produce was eerie, spine-chilling and ghost-like, the music just simply breath-taking. This night was only different in one respect, the chilling and beating heart-like drums, the rich vocals and plentiful guitar all remained present and correct, the feeling of noir still purveyed the set but now the band bought new tracks to the table to entertain the crowd with and they did it in absolute spades.

All We Are opened their set with the old favourite Cardhouse and from there the evening took a turn for the new and the untested in Liverpool. If any city has the right to listen to a pristine set from Luis, Richard and Guro then Liverpool should be that domain. As Richard and Guro’s haunting vocals criss- crossed throughout the set, Richard’s superb and thumping drums guiding the way and Luis setting the scene, the music was enjoyed, cheered and went down so well that the evening in Leaf was one of the finest that could have been imagined. Tracks such as Stone, Utmost Good, The Tide and the stunning Another Life exemplified every reason to enjoy this band.

Richard thanked the crowd for making them feel welcome again in their home town after their tour in Germany. Liverpool though isn’t quite the same without this atmospheric and incredible band around. Liverpool audiences certainly look after their own and the three people who comprise All We Are is a band that the city has taken very much to its heart.
