2012’s award-winning and critically acclaimed Broadway smash hit musical, THE LAST FIVE YEARS is back by popular demand! After last year’s run at The Liverpool Actors Studio sold out, the show will this time visit a larger venue – the beautiful and newly-renovated Epstein Theatre – for 3 weeks this June, starting on Monday 3rd until Sunday 23rd June.
Directed, designed by, and starring Liverpool actors Helen Carter and Stephen Fletcher, with Musical Direction by Nick Phillips and written by Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown (Songs for a New World, Parade), THE LAST FIVE YEARS is a heartbreaking and hilarious musical about two New Yorkers who fall in and out of love over the course of five years together.
Cathy is a vivacious struggling actress, and Jamie a hotshot up-and-coming novelist. In this clever way of story-telling, Cathy’s story begins at the end of their relationship, and Jamie’s starts at the beginning. Watch their relationship from tragic end to hopeful beginning and hopeful beginning to tragic end, as Jamie and Cathy share their separate tale of their last five years together.
This poignant, funny, and emotionally powerful production returns to Liverpool this summer, brought to you by Life In Theatre Productions whose previous productions include A Life In The Theatre and Mam! I’m ‘ere!, the sell-out family Disco Christmas show of 2012.
Helen Carter is well known for her stage work in Liverpool including roles in Mam! I’m ‘ere!, Dead Heavy Fantastic, Once Upon a Time at The Adelphi and Flint Street Nativity.
Stephen Fletcher is another renowned Liverpool actor whose previous productions include Mam! I’m ‘ere!, A Life In The Theatre, Hamlet and A Streetcar Named Desire.
Helen Carter said, “I’m so excited to be reuniting with Stephen and Nick on this brilliant show. Last year was amazing – in fact it was my favourite job! I’m so looking forward to getting into the new Epstein theatre too- I can’t wait to see the show in a bigger space and to hear what people think. I think this is a show that everyone will love, and it deserves to be seen by as many people as possible.”
Stephen Fletcher said, “Having reached a wider audience with Mam I’m ‘ere over Christmas, it seemed right to build on the success of 2012 and bring The Last 5 Years back this summer, giving everyone the chance to see it. With a larger three-piece band- violin, cello and piano, a beautiful and award-winning score, and a new set, I’m so excited to put it all together, building on from our last outing. We’re bringing a bit of Broadway to Liverpool! It has always been my aim to present entertaining and affordable drama, and to introduce different and varied work to the city. Mam I’m ‘ere! helped to establish us as a new and ambitious production company, proving (when we had to) that we can deliver the big showpiece productions as well as the smaller-scale studio shows. It seems right to give more people the chance to see this beautiful, funny and moving musical, and I think our audiences will really enjoy it.”
