Celebrated Pianist Angela Hewitt To Perform At The Atkinson In Southport.

Angela Hewitt, one of the world’s leading pianists, will visit Southport’s state of the art new venue The Atkinson this May.

A phenomenal artist who has established herself as a performer of the highest calibre, Angela has been hailed as “the pre-eminent Bach pianist of our time” (The Guardian) and “nothing less than the pianist who will define Bach performance on the piano for years to come” (Stereophile). With a vast repertoire ranging from Couperin to the contemporary this is set to be an evening of note-perfect entertainment.

Appearing in recital and with major orchestras throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia, Angela’s performances and recordings of Bach have drawn universal praise, establishing her as one of the composer’s foremost interpreters of our time. Her superb, award-winning recording for Hyperion – an eleven-year project to record all the major keyboard works of Bach has been described as “one of the record glories of our age” (The Sunday Times).

Named ‘Artist of the Year’ at the 2006 Gramophone Awards, Angela was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2000, and was awarded an O.B.E. in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2006. She lives in London but also has homes in Ottawa and in Italy, where she is also Artistic Director of the Trasimeno Music Festival in Umbria. Although renowned for her recordings of Bach her extensive discography also spans the works of many influential performers including Beethoven, Chopin, Handel, Rameau and Chabrier.

The Atkinson is privileged to host such an exceptional artist for one very special evening.
