Six Top Authors Visit The Epstein Theatre For An Evening Of Readings And Debate.

This month the Epstein Theatre will play host to six of the finest Dutch- language storytellers as High Impact: Literature from The Low Countries comes to Liverpool as part of a six cities nationwide tour.

On Wednesday 16th January acclaimed wordsmiths, all prize winners in their home countries of Belgium and The Netherlands, will showcase the best High Impact literature from Europe in an evening of high calibre discussion and debate.

Sponsored by Flanders House and the Netherlands Embassy in London, each author has been handpicked by creator and journalist Rosie Goldsmith, known in the U.K. as a champion of international fiction. The mix of talent includes the Dutch Poet Laureate, Flanders’ leading graphic novelist, two global best sellers, a thriller writer, celebrated historian and a travel writer. The talented writers will perform on stage each night and discover what it is they may (or may not) have in common. Chosen for their, wit, wisdom, high impact performance skills and brilliant books, the six authors, all fluent in English, have produced some of the most exciting literature in Europe and this event gives audiences a chance to learn about work that we know so little about.

LIEVE JORIS: whose journalism & non-fiction books on Africa, China, The Middle East & Europe has earned her the reputation as the VS Naipaul or Ryszard Kapuscinski of the Low Countries.

HERMAN KOCH: former actor & comedy star; best-selling novelist – in the Netherlands & round the world – of the thrilling, chilling mega-hit The Dinner.

RAMSEY NASR: the Dutch Poet Laureate and all-round Renaissance Man (actor, director, poet, journalist & librettist), famed for his beautiful prose, provocative politics & exciting public appearances.

PETER TERRIN: this year’s winner of the prestigious AKO Literature Prize & author of the magnificent psychological thriller The Guard.

CHIKA UNIGWE: born in Nigeria, at home in Belgium; poet, short story writer & award-winning novelist of On Black Sisters’ Street.

JUDITH VANISTENDAEL: the Posy Simmonds of Belgium; the bold & brilliant graphic novelist of When David Lost His Voice.

 There will also be a special guest appearance from Geert Mak, High Impacts very own historian and essayist and the author of the acclaimed In Europe.
