Perhaps one of the hardest jobs in the entertainment field is to amuse and tickle the fancy of those who have no time for what you are doing. This is especially hard when the task before the actor or musician takes place on a raw, rain filled afternoon just a few short weeks before the festive season arrives.

With that in mind the early Christmas shoppers and workers that made their way through Williamson Square may have been forgiven for not listening to intently to the music coming from the erected wooden bandstand and the excellent group Radiate. With the cold weather against them, the three members of the all-female band, two more unfortunately succumbing to ill health, on the bandstand gave a very good account of themselves and the music they perform.

Dominique Daly, Marisa Daly and Marcella Rick ploughed through a short set that, whilst which was essentially a list of covers, had their own personal stamp threaded throughout and yet whereas they were not up to full compliment in terms of personnel, the music they provided for the onlookers and passers-by was nothing short of a delight to witness.

With such a short time to showcase the songs, the three women played songs such The Temptations’ hit My Girl, Ed Sherrin’s Kiss Me and Rita Ora’s R.I.P. Certainly the band provoked interest and rightly so; don’t let the open and perhaps intimidating atmosphere of Williamson Square fool you, Radiate are ones to watch and more importantly listen to.

Radiate will be performing at the 02 Academy on Hotham Street on December 23rd.
