The Liverpool Academy of the Arts opened up their Saturday spectacle for the Sound City Festival with a very impressive band from the Greater Manchester area, The Kill Van Kulls.

Alongside the Matthew Street Festival over the August bank holiday, Liverpool Sound City offers the chance for upcoming bands to show why they should be taken seriously. Following on from some incredible performances by really outstanding artists on Thursday and Friday, it was time for The Kill Van Kulls to show their mettle and give some really special attitude to the audience of The Liverpool Academy of Arts.

It won’t be long surely before a wider audience knows the name of the band as easily as others that have ploughed a trough between the two major cities in the North West, however unlike some of the bands that don’t transfer well as they travel up down the East Lancs Road, The Kill Van Kulls will surely be a welcome addition to the Liverpool music lists as a more than capable band that have something undeniably brilliant about them.

Although the night was young in Liverpool and they festival would go on well into the small hours of the Sunday, those that made the effort to check out this very cool band were rewarded with an exceptional set that had all those present enraptured by the bands presence and music.

Songs such as For The First Time, Beautiful Ghost and the simply stunning Impossible Man were well received and as the band visibly relaxed and became more in tune with the Liverpool audience’s requirements for a good time.

The four members of the Manchester group should be proud of the way they conducted themselves and are a credit to their profession.  The Kill Van Kulls finished an extremely good set with the closing numbers of Heavy on my Back, Wooden Heart and the phenomenal Oceans.

The Kill Van Kulls are by far one of the new finds of the festival and a band that tears down the barriers between the two differing musical styles along the East Lancs Road.
