Brighton may seem a world away from the banks of the Mersey, from the area that first nurtured the beautiful talent residing in Niamh Jones, yet the similarities between the two places are easily seen, both have suffered at the hands of those who believe that the past must be replaced with something unrecognisable, both have an all encompassing nature and both have taken in those who have added greatly to the charm and distinction to the area; Brighton could be seen in many ways as the Liverpool of the South, surrounded by the genteel and supposedly refined, its greatness stems from its ability to make anyone feel welcome.

In Chevasse Park in Liverpool One, the first hopeful sounds of a Winter many will dread overpowers the senses, the heady aroma of Christmas is clinging in the air. The sound of children being treated by their parents to try their luck in the hope of winning an overstuffed bear or the thrill of a ride being undertaken with much glee follows suit and a cold November evening feels as biting and as forced as commemorating the end of the First World War with a supermarket advert for chocolate.

If the word division has been on people’s lips of late, it could be seen as understandable. Everywhere you care to look, no matter what side you feel you are either urged to take or come too of your own research and accord, division is everywhere. It is in every fabric of society and seems so deeply engrained that even if a nation or family votes in a majority in favour of something, the arguments it has caused are going to live long in the memory.

Niamh Jones is a woman with such a sparkling voice that it is no wonder at the age of 15 she was given the opportunity to impress all who attend the highly respected nights hosted by the people at Liverpool Acoustic. Two years on, Niamh Jones is something special to behold, and inside The Bluecoat on an August day which betrayed the thought of blistering sunshine blasting its rays upon the multitude of people making their way to take in a day of music, Niamh Jones again showed the reason why she is thought of so well.
