It could be argued that we may have reached peak Christie.

The Queen of Crime has not lost any of the affection on the fans, the books will always sell, the dedicated devotee will pour over even the shortest of articles that has Agatha Christie’s name attached, even if by the merest of association, they will believe that there is somewhere a story, a tale in which perhaps one more exercise in observing the act of criminality and murder will make itself known.

The message of Christmas gets lost, swamped by the greed of consumerism, by the heady ringing of tills and the message from political elites that you may as well as celebrate now because come the New Year life is about to get real, is about to see you become nostalgic for the 24 hours you try to make perfect.

In a world obsessed with celebrity, with instant fame and the self gratification of not having to climb to the top of your profession without hard work and tears, the animated film Sing is a refreshing pastiche wrapped up in the soft fabric of feel good cinema.

They seem to be everywhere and perhaps with good reason, for in amongst all the merchandising, the paraphernalia, the produce and products making the type of money on the side that would help towards a small nation’s debt, there is no doubt that the Minions, the real stars of the Despicable Me films, are big, bigger in some child’s and possibly some adult’s mine too than John Lennon.

The Boy in the Dress is one of those heart-touching moments of British television that no doubt will split the vast majority of Christmas viewers. It will inevitably also have those that purposefully avoided it have mini rages into their early morning cups of tea and spitting in annoyance at the thought of such a diverse subject being given air time.
